Michael Balkin

Mike serves on our Board of Directors and is Horizon’s Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Advisor’s investment committee. Mike has over 35 years of experience in investment and portfolio management and construction.

Mike has been a principal of the Rail-Splitter Micro Cap Rebound Fund since 2023 and was a principal at William Blair & Co, LLC, a global investment bank and financial services firm, for a combined 30 years. While at William Blair, Mike was Partner and Co-Manager of the Small-Cap Growth Fund. He was previously a Partner and Chief Investment Officer at Magnetar Investment Management, a wholly owned subsidiary of Magnetar Capital LLC, a multi-strategy hedge fund, from 2005 to 2008. 

Mike is the Chairman of Performance Health Systems, LLC, a fitness and health company.  He also serves as an advisor and director to several other public and private companies as well as on the board of several charities.

Mike earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwestern University.

He was previously director of the Smithsonian Institution’s Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation and has held academic appointments at the University of Kansas School of Medicine and Harvard Business School.

Bob also has a national reputation for helping clients deal with the intersection of intellectual property and bankruptcy law, representing licensors, licensees, and others on these complex issues.

Hailey Fiallo

Alexander Gorokhovskiy

Alexander Gorokhovskiy is a Managing Director and Head of North American Corporate Direct Lending and Venture Debt at Deutsche Bank, a longstanding multibillion balance sheet business. His responsibilities span all aspects of the principal lending activities, including underwriting, structuring, portfolio management and syndication. Mr. Gorokhovskiy has played a critical role in driving Deutsche Bank’s growing presence in the direct lending market and sits on the Firm’s Private Credit & Infrastructure business investment committee. Previously, he held multiple roles in structured credit trading and credit solutions businesses. Mr. Gorokhovskiy graduated summa cum laude from Pace University’s Pforzheimer Honors College with degrees in Computer Science and Business Management, with a minor in Mathematics. He is a CFA charterholder.

Heidi Lipton, a founding partner of Rock Creek Advisors, has many years of experience in banking and consulting. She worked over 10 years at Goldman Sachs in their investment banking and asset management divisions and additional years in management consulting for McKinsey & Company in their New York based Financial Institutions practice. Heidi is very talented in identifying a company’s strengths and issues, developing a strategy for improvement, building consensus with all key constituents, and leading a process to obtain a positive outcome. Heidi has extensive experience with clients in many industries and helps guide them through tough financial issues, restructuring, liquidity constraints, sale processes and insolvency matters. Heidi has an MBA from the Wharton School and a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts from University of Pennsylvania.

Jennifer Post

In addition to counseling lenders on commercial transaction matters, she assists her clients in structuring funds, co investment entities, joint ventures and account management structures often including leverage and warehouse lines. In connection with the documentation of credit facilities, she supports her clients in due diligence, documentation, syndications, participations, portfolio management, intercreditor agreements and distressed and turnaround matters. Mark Solovy

Mr. Solovy earned his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and his B.S in Business Administration (summa cum laude) from Washington University’s Olin Business School in St. Louis. Mr. Solovy is Co-President of the Wharton Private Equity & Venture Capital Alumni Association.

David is a Venture Partner (formerly Partner) with Coolwater Capital, which invests in emerging fund managers as a limited partner, into general partnerships, and into fund management companies. David was also formerly a Managing Partner with HOF Capital; Partner with ff Venture Capital; and Founder of Harvard Business School Alumni Angels of NY. David has previously advised such institutional investors as Activate Venture Partners, Birch Hill Equity Partners, Goldman Sachs Special Situations Group, Icahn Enterprises, LLR Partners, Real Ventures, Right Side Capital, Tiferes.vc, Transform Investment Group, and Orascom TMT Investments (Sawiris family office). He started his career as a strategy consultant, Bear Stearns investment banker, and serial founder with two cash exits as CEO.
